Custom Jewelry - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Custom Jewelry?

Custom jewelry is the epitome of personal expression in adornment. It's refers to pieces that are uniquely crafted according to individual preferences and specification. Unlike mass-produced pieces, custom jewelry is meticulously crafted to reflect individual style, personality, and sentiment. It's a collaborative journey between the wearer and the artisan, where dreams and visions are translated into tangible treasures. From engagement rings to statement necklaces, each piece tells a unique story, celebrating moments, memories, and milestones. With skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail, custom jewelry transforms raw materials into wearable art, making every wearer feel truly special and unique. It's not just jewelry; it's a reflection of one's identity and a testament to the beauty of individuality.

Can I really create custom jewelry with no experience (or even drawing skills)?

Yes, you can create custom jewelry without experience or drawing skills. Start by exploring beginner-friendly jewelry-making kits or online tutorials. Experiment with various materials and techniques until you find what suits you best. Practice and patience will help you develop your skills and create beautiful pieces. All you need is some inspiration and an idea. A drawing can be useful, but it’s not necessary. We work with clients at any level of experience.

Isn’t custom jewelry much more expensive?

Custom engagement rings are often more affordable than generic ones sold in stores due to lower mark-ups. However, customization factors like design, materials, and craftsmanship can increase costs. Mass-produced jewelry benefits from economies of scale, but custom pieces require individual attention and expertise. Despite potential higher costs, the uniqueness and sentimental value of custom rings often justify the expense. Outsourcing manufacturing may reduce prices, but quality could be compromised. Additionally, there's no mark-up on metals or gems; customers only pay for labour. Ultimately, investing in custom jewelry ensures quality and personalization without excessive retail mark-ups.

What does “CAD/CAM” and “3D Modelling” mean?

CAD stands for “Computer Aided Design” and CAM stands for “Computer Aided Model”, a technology used in various industries for designing and manufacturing products. It involves creating digital models of objects and processes to aid in their design, analysis, and production. Using specialized software, we can create 3D digital models of your jewelry, which allows you to see what it will look like before you even commit to production. This process makes communication between both parties easier, and speeds up the production process.

What is 3D printing and how is it related to jewelry?

3D printing is a process of creating three-dimensional objects by depositing material layer by layer based on a digital model. In jewelry, it allows for intricate designs to be manufactured with precision, enabling customization and rapid prototyping of pieces with various materials like metals and resins. After a 3d designer creates a digital model, a 3D printer produces the wax model. This wax model is the basis for the physical piece of jewelry.  Although it’s melted away during the production process, 3D printed waxes have revolutionized the speed and efficiency of the jewelry industry.
